Nationwide Survey of WRRF Biosolids Programs - Cleaned & QCed Data Spreadsheet, V.2 (13 May 2022)
The most comprehensive nationwide data set related to individual biosolids programs.
Represents 34% of U. S. wastewater flow • Extrapolations & correlations possible. • Includes helpful respondent comments. • Data year: 2018. Completed March 2022.
452 water resource recovery facilities (WRRF) biosolids programs from across the U. S. provided responses to our 2021 online survey. These data are representative of geography; facility size (MGD flow); and variety of biosolids treatments, uses, and disposal. NBDP has applied quality control analysis to these data, removing errors. Basic summary calculations & extrapolations are included in the spreadsheet. Each topic area has a different number (<452) of responses (n). The data are ready for you to run more extrapolations & correlations, to better understand current practices, attitudes, markets, & trends. Most of the survey questions asked for 2018 data, adding to our national “snapshot” of current biosolids management.
Topics covered (n = number of data points):
economics - typical biosolids program budgets (n = ~180), expected investment in next 5 years (n = 123), costs & tipping fees (n = ~45), hauling distances (n = ~75), biosolids product pricing (n = 16), septage disposal fees (n = ~70), FTEs (n = 175), biosolids payroll (n = 148)
energy - what energy areas are WRRFs focused on? (n > 200), attitudes on biogas use (n > 140), amounts of energy produced (n = 1 - 45), AD tank capacity & availability (n = ~90), total biogas produced & how it is used (n = 79), upgrades & costs in last 10 years (n = 51)
